Tender of New Classrooms for the University of Florence –
Via Edoardo Detti, Sesto Fiorentino (FI), Tuscany, Italy
2017
Area: 378 sqm
Client: Metropolitan city of Florence
Performed services: Detailed design and supervision
Status: on-going
The intervention is designed to ensure maximum functionality and transformability over time.
To do this, a central spine has been planned that will house both the distribution system and the functional one
plant engineering. The main classrooms facing this axis will be equipped with double entrances
and therefore can be transformed into two smaller classrooms (100 + 100). One of the two largest
classrooms has been facing south to create an independent access so that it can be used as a real one
external auditorium, therefore with an entrance foyer, with service bathrooms for users,
with a dressing room for the speakers with an exclusive bathroom and a control room
that manages translations and stage events. Attention was also given to study rooms
by inserting both individual study seats and collective tables. The study activities of
the students were also extended to the outdoor areas by inserting fixed
furniture suitably shaded to facilitate their use in the summer.
